Needle Felting for Mosaic Tile

This is the piece that I created for the Pumpkin Mosaic. It is made out of felt using a technique called needle felting. I purchased the wool from a local sheep farmer who also cleans, spins and weaves her own fleece! Her name is Pia Skaarer-Nielsen and her business is called Wonderous Wooleries!!! She too created a piece for the mosaic in which she tapestry wove her image - amazing!!! To see a list of other artists and their various mediums.....email me....and I'll send you a key to the mosaic!!!! If looking at the image below, mine is the second piece from the left on the bottom.

2005 Pumpkin Harvest Mosaic

This piece is a collaboration of 25 different artists from the Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia. Each artist was given a 1' x1" chip of an image and a 8" x 8" tile. In their own mediums and veritable styles, artists were asked to replicate the image on the tile. All of the tiles were pieced together and unveiled at Harvest Gallery in Wolfville. It was a lovely evening well attended by artists and the public in celebration of the Pumpkin Harvest that has been happening throughout the month of October....and yes, this is the same festival in which Martha Stewart was scheduled to paddle her giant pumpkin across a lake!!
